Place

2okna Cafe is situated on the ground floor of a 16th-century building that once served as the kahal, or Jewish community council office. This historic edifice features cross-barrel vaults and Renaissance inter-window columns. In 1693, a fire damaged the building, and in 1773, another blaze destroyed part of the kahal archive housed within. Between 1770 and 1790, Pinchas Horowitz, a kahal scribe and son of the community's syndic, resided here and played a significant role in advocating for the trade rights of Kraków's Jewish population.
Renovations between 1969 and 1971 led to several discoveries and modifications. A narrow passageway in the western wall on the first floor, leading to a prayer room situated a few steps lower. Addition of a second floor and the creation of a main entrance connecting to the High Synagogue, along with a staircase to the upper level.
Conversion of the original vestibule with a carriage entrance into office spaces. Revelation of inter-window columns in rooms facing Józefa Street on both the ground and first floors. Relocation of a late-Renaissance tax collection box from a neighbouring synagogue, now embedded in the wall by the stairs leading upstairs.*

Garden

Behind the Synagogue lies a beautiful and enigmatic garden, offering respite and tranquillity on hot days. This serene space is visible through two windows in the main hall, separated by a majestic Renaissance column. The thick, ornate stone walls evoke Kraków's old quarters, reminding visitors of the café's deep connection to the city's rich history.
